Judge Paul Hawkes was the primary judge in an opinion quashing the shelter order by a trial judge. The First DCA found the court failed to allow the dependent child’s mother a chance to be heard. In the opinion, Judge Paul Hawkes quoted from the hearing transcript where the mother’s attorney was preemptively cut-off when she began to speak on behalf of the mother. In writing for a unanimous court Judge Paul Hawkes found because the mother’s due process rights were denied the standard for a writ of certiorari was met.  See K.G. v.
